African Bush Camps, our esteemed affiliate member with a strong conservation focus, is dedicated to enhancing human-wildlife coexistence by safeguarding both wildlife and livestock while preserving natural resources in the areas where they operate. This safari guides you through national parks and local communities surrounding their camps, offering a glimpse into their conservation initiatives and collaborative efforts with the community to foster harmonious living with wildlife.

As part of your booking, $2,000 will be contributed to ABCF (African Bush Camps), supporting the acquisition and installation of a lion boma in the community. KANGA CAMP & ZAMBEZI EXPEDITIONS, ZIMBABWE

Flight: Harare International Airport to Mana Main Airstrip

Embarking on our journey in Zimbabwe, we delve into the enchanting realm of Mana Pools National Park. The name "Mana," meaning four, pays homage to the four pools nestled within this pristine sanctuary. Gracing the banks of the formidable lower Zambezi, this national park stands as a breathtaking testament to the rejuvenating force of conservation in action.

In its heyday, Mana Pools flourished as a lively ecosystem, teeming with diverse wildlife and untouched natural landscapes. Regrettably, the passage of time witnessed a gradual decline, attributed to the perils of poaching and expanding human settlements. However, dynamic conservation initiatives, bolstered by responsible tourism, effective wildlife management, and community collaboration, have orchestrated a triumphant resurgence for Mana Pools and its once-threatened inhabitants.

This destination serves as the optimal starting point for a 9-night escapade dedicated to the theme of conservation. Standing at the precipice of a national park and its wildlife, which once faced imminent eradication, we embark on a profound journey of witnessing their salvation and safeguarding, a testament to the transformative power of conservation efforts.

5 - 8 DAY

BUMI HILLS SAFARI LODGE, ZIMBABWE

Road Transfer: Kanga Camp to Dandawa Airstrip

Flight: Dandawa Airstrip to Bumi Hills Airstrip

Next on the itinerary is Lake Karibia, where we delve into the intricacies of conservation efforts along its shores and within the encompassing national park. Steeped in a history of bream and tiger fishing, the lake unveils its tales of rising water levels that birthed Starvation Island. Amidst this picturesque landscape, the interconnected dance of elephants along the shore, hippos, and birds nesting on the trunks of weathered trees awaits exploration and discovery.

Our journey extends to the Mola community, where we forge a partnership aimed at constructing and erecting a lion boma within the village. The lion boma, an integral facet of the lion guardian program, plays a pivotal role in our collective endeavor to alleviate human-wildlife conflicts. Through empowerment, education, and equipping the community, we strive to foster a harmonious coexistence with wildlife. Our lion guardians, armed with vuvuzelas, serve as vigilant protectors, sounding warnings to the community when lions are in the vicinity. This prompts the herding of livestock into the lion bomas, ensuring their safety from predators.

Our contribution to building a boma in this community aligns with the broader initiative to safeguard livestock and mitigate retaliatory killings of wildlife. In this collaborative effort, we actively engage in the preservation of both the natural habitat and the livelihoods of those sharing the landscape with these magnificent creatures.

8 - 10 DAY

THORNTREE RIVER LODGE, ZAMBIA

Flightr: Bumi Hills Airstrip to Victoria Falls International Airport

Road Transfer: Victoria Falls International Airport to Thorntree River Lodge

We conclude the trip in Zambia with a visit to the rhino trekking project in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where a crash of white rhinos is under 24-hour protection by rangers with the aim of conserving them. The crash has increased from 4 rhinos in 2008 to now 10. You will get to witness these magnificent animals up close, and learn about their behaviour and the conservation efforts to keep them safe. Additionally, we will visit the young farmer club at Maunga Primary School, where learners from Maunga Village learn the importance of co-existing with wildlife in the national park, land regeneration and conserving natural resources. The conservation club at the school provides agricultural education through the vegetable garden, where students learn valuable farming skills that they can practice and use at home to grow a vegetable garden that will support and feed their families.
