Islas Secas
Panama, Central America
Islas Secas brings out the inner explorer in you. The journey alone to the private archipelago is an adventure as you go past remote islands, vast ocean and then arrive to the jungle-clad Isla Cavada (the main island where the property is) and welcomed with a refreshing drink and smiling hosts ready to make you feel at home. With just 9 accommodations it's incredibly intimate and feels like your own adventure playground. I was in Casita Sombra where we had a path directly going onto a small bea... I was in Casita Sombra where we had a path directly going onto a small beach. The design itself is unique and resembling the style of a traditional Panama Canal house structure and with stylish, contemporary interiors. My favourite touch in the rooms was the hat stand with Panama Hats, your binoculars to get you out exploring and beach bags! We spent our three days doing everything from scuba diving, snorkeling and the highlight for me was the excursion we took to Coiba National Park, and the private lunch arranged for us on a completely unspoiled beach. On the note of food... Chef Katie made the most delicious meals served at the Terraza - an impressive bamboo pavilion setting overlooking the ocean. We had everything from the freshest fish tacos for lunch to wagyu beef for dinner. Everything is homemade and really excellent quality. Couldn't fault anything. The wine list is also superb so we'd always start - and end - in the colonial style Hemingway bar right by the Terraza. Highly recommend staying and it's especially a spot for those who love marine life, boating, being active and enjoying excellent fresh food all the time! It's not a fly & flop, though of course, it's pretty tempting to stay in the casita all day and enjoy the plunge pool and stunning views !
